4th meeting – 2010/01/20

Our 4th meeting was another active discussion.

We had an update on the duck pond area and the new temporary path refurbishment.

Anthony French, Cambridge City Council Green Space Officer, was welcomed and gave us a run down of his role and how we can help each other for the benefit of the Hall and grounds.

Anthony French, Cambridge City Council Green Space Officer, was welcomed and gave us a run down of his role and how we can help each other for the benefit of the Hall and grounds.

We introduced some other groups in the local area and gave details of some events that are happening over the coming weeks. Please see the minutes for more details.

We discussed the deed of covernance of the Hall and grounds which impacts on any future work that may happen inside the grounds.

The propagation center obviously had a big hold on the meeting and the plans and we agreed a list of what we like and don’t like about the Hall, and some ideas of what could help improve the grounds for all, and also some things to avoid. Please see the minutes for a detailed run down.

We had an update on funding and some ideas for leaflets and the Folk Festival were put forward.

New Nature trail, near the duck pond

We were recently made officially aware of a new proposed plan to add a nature trail near the duck pond area. While we had unofficially heard rumours in the past, which had been denied, we now have a proposal after attending a meeting with the council yesterday and other potential stakeholders. You can see the initial proposal here.

Note these are ideas only and are not necessarily going to happen. They are for us and others to feedback on. So please do pass us your feedback via the normal channels. The idea is to try and engage children and adults in to exploring the nature around the pond area. Note we have already objected to the BBQ, plus we have requested that more thought be taken to the placement of the activities. We have requested that placement of any activities be on the fringe of the nature area rather than in the middle. We are only one stakeholder group being consulted.

Bat and Bird boxes

Some are starting to appear, more to come!

Next meeting

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 24 March, at 7.00 pm, at the Baptist Church Centre, Fisher’s Lane, Cherry Hinton (please note earlier start time).

Thanks for now and let’s hope the spring really arrives next week! I think we have all seen enough snow for one year!
