Friends of Cherry Hinton Hall
Community Action Day 8 June
A group of us were able to do some tidying up in and around the brook and in the wildlife area. Litter was removed from the brook downstream on the duck pond, and logs that were found in various locations (some in the brook) were brought together in piles to make them more welcoming for insects. The upper photo shows one such pile, half-buried in thistles and nettles to discourage disturbance. Some of these thistles were taken from around the butterfly seat in the natural play area, which was becoming overgrown with such inhospitable vegetation.
There are still a number of varieties of wild flowers in areas near this seat, but much of the planting that was done to introduce more nectar-rich plants has been lost. We shall need some more Community Action Days to help create a well-established wildflower meadow!
Our thanks are recorded to all those who helped on the morning of 8 June. Your readiness to help is really appreciated.

The Friends act as advocates and champions of Cherry Hinton Hall grounds and provide an effective communication channel between the Council and the public.

Next Meeting
The next Friends of Cherry Hinton Hall meeting will be the 25th Meeting and will take place at
7.30 pm on Wednesday, 17 July 2013
at the Cherry Hinton Village Centre,
Colville Road, Cherry Hinton.
This meeting will also be the Annual General Meeting, at which voting will take place for members of the committee.
The guest speaker will be Simon Bunn, Sustainable Drainage Engineer, Cambridge City Council. Following some enhancements to the brook within the park, we are seeking to improve the condition of the 'backwater' (currently stagnant) within the wildlife area.
Please, if you can, bring a prize for the raffle! This helps with the costs of running the Friends group.
